The youngest Swiss chess player ever to have won two grand master titles
Nico Georgiadis, born on 22 January 1996, is the youngest federal master (15 years old) in the history of the sport of chess. His extraordinary talent and his interest in the sport of chess was already apparent at an early age. Nico Georgiadis played for the Wädenswil chess club on a regular basis despite being only 6 years old. At the age of 11 he changed to the national league A club SG Winterthur, where he still plays at first board.
Later, Nico Georgiadis achieved several major successes. In addition to attaining diverse Swiss championship titles in the categories U14, U16 and U18, he achieved another Swiss championship title in 2014. Also notable, Nico was the youngest Fide and international chess master in the history of Swiss chess.
He ranked 11th at the U12 junior championship in Vietnam, 13th at the U14 world championship in Greece, 13th at the U16 European championship in Prague, and 6th at the U18 European championship in Georgia.
Nico is currently number 8 in the world rankings for his age and has been playing for the men’s national team A at second board for two years with great success.
A special highlight of his career so far is the silver medal Nico Georgiadis won at the U18 European team championship. We are wishing Nico Georgiadis continued fun and success in the sport of chess and all the best for his future.
