What is supplementary food?
Supplementary food is eaten in addition to breast milk. In addition to bottles, your child should start eating paps at the earliest after 5 months of age and no later than in the 7th month.
Is there a recommended number of maximum paps per day?
There is no specific recommendation here. The best gauge is your child’s appetite.
How many bottles and paps may I give my baby every day?
Because every child is different, the number of meals can be individually adapted to your child. Infants should drink 1/6 of their body weight every day but not more than 1 litre. One example:
Sandro weighs 5kg
- Minimum liquid = 8 dl
- Miximum liquid = 1 liter
- Ideal number of bottles for Sandro = 4 bottles each with 250ml or 5 bottles with 200ml
May I used frozen breast milk?
Breast milk changes as your baby grows. We are often contacted by mothers who are using breast milk they froze six months previously but their child no longer fills up. In this case, you can warm up breast milk and enrich it with organic millet, organic rice or Bio-Hosana
Why is every child’s diet different?
If we only look at people’s outward appearance, it is clear that: “Every person is different and an individual”. This principle also applies to diet, especially for young children. They have very different needs and parents should try and address these needs individually. There are several practical and good recommendations or pieces of advice that mothers can try out once to determine which product is best for their child. At Bimbosan we develop food that is as all-natural as possible and can be ideally adjusted to meet your baby’s needs. Our friendly customer service would be happy to help you personally by phone at +41 32 639 14 44 or per e-mail to info@bimbosan.ch.
Why is breastfeeding so important?
Breast milk is best for your baby. Breast-feed as long as possible. The WHO recommends exclusively breastfeeding for the first 6 months. Seek advice from an independent medical, nutritional or infant and childcare professional if you are not breastfeeding or contact our helpful customer service by phone at +41 32 639 14 44 or per e-mail to info@bimbosan.ch.
How much weight should my baby gain?

My baby is hungry (breastfeeding): What can I do?
Ask an expert for advice and helpful breastfeeding tips. As another option after 6 months. Mix the cereal supplement right for your baby’s stool consistency with water only to form a pap and give a small quantity of it to your child before breastfeeding with your finger, a dummy or a spoon.

Choose the right Bimbosan products to meet your baby’s needs. Under the Bimbosan Feel-Good-Systemthere is a wide range of products available with different characteristics.
Can I use milk other than Bimbosan milk when my baby is hungry?
Bimbosan products can theoretically be combined with other products. But of course, it is easiest to just use Bimbosan baby milk because the Bimbosan products are perfectly matched to one another so nothing can go wrong. A lot of other milk contains several carbohydrates. Some infants are happy with just Bimbosan milk for 5-6 months. Depending on your baby’s needs, bottles supplements can be added to the baby milk.
What can I do if my baby is not sleeping through the night?
- 0-4 months: usually your baby still needs nourishment at night and can be breastfed
- 4-8 months: make sure that your child is eating enough during the day. You should never just add a lot of cereal supplement to the last bottle in the evening
- 8-12 months: you should absolutely start giving your baby supplementary food for the big growth spurts during this phase
- After 12 months: make absolutely sure that you don’t give your child artificially vitamin-enhanced cereal supplements at night
How does cow’s milk affect babies and infants?
You should only give your baby cow’s milk after the 12th month.
What is important to know about combination feeding?
If you are not relying totally on breast milk, ask an independent expert or nutritionist about which products to use. Bimbosan baby milk products are especially well-suited for combination feeding. They are developed using breast milk as a model and contain everything your baby needs for the first months of life. Because our tins hermetically seal, the content – even if you have just used a little bit – doesn’t have to be thrown away after 3 weeks like most other products. If you have special questions, please feel free to get in touch by phone at +41 32 639 14 44 or per e-mail to info@bimbosan.ch.

What is gluten?

After 7-8 months yoghurt can be added to fruit or grain paps as a supplement.Due to its high protein content, fromage frais is not suitable during your baby’s 1st year.
Can I also give my child soy milk?
Liquid soy milk is not suitable for babies as it contains too few vitamins and too little calcium and iron. These important substances have been added to Bisoja. Bisoja does not contain any cow’s milk and is lactose-free. Because Bisoja contains no animal fats, proteins or gluten, it is especially suited as a basic food in a vegetarian diet.
How does sugar affect babies and infants?
Sugar, over time, has come increasingly under fire when it comes to babies’ diets. But sugar does play a role in nutrition. By law, every baby milk powder contains lactose. Bimbosan offers mothers a wide range of sugar-free cereal supplements. This is easy to see in the product name. All of the cereal supplements with the word organic in the name (e.g. organic rice) are absolutely sugar-free.
How long can I continue to use Bimbosan products once they have been opened?
Provided they are stored correctly (cool and dry), our products can be used without reservation for 8 to 10 weeks after opening them.
Storage conditions have a major influence on quality and shelf life – heat and moisture, for example, are very detrimental to our products.
Baby nutrition - Golden rules
- If powdered milk is mixed with hot water (over 62°C), many essential vitamins are lost. Bimbosan offers a versatile bottle thermometer to measure water temperature.
- Bimbosan has two different measuring spoons:
1. The white measuring spoon is for milk products
2. The transparent measuring spoon is for cereal supplements
Each tin has its own measuring spoon. - If, after 4 months, your infant isn’t filling up from baby milk powder alone, our cereral supplements may be mixed with any follow-on milk – such as Bimbosan.
- The bottles are more homogeneous and creamy if the water is quickly brought to a boil before mixed with grain-based cereal supplements.
- Cow’s milk: It is generally acknowledged that cow’s milk should only be given to children after the first year.
- Preparing paps: Simply mix the cereal supplement and milk powder together with boiled water right on a plate. Mix 4–6 measuring spoons of milk powder and 4–6 tablespoons of pap powder with water as required.
Baby nutrition - Allergies
Important:If your child is specifically allergic to cow’s milk or is lactose-intolerant, hypoallergenic milk is not a suitable product because it also contains lactose.
In this case, parents can use Bisoja from Bimbosan. Bisoja is a plant-based baby milk powder without gluten.
Baby nutrition - Tips and Tricks
If you child is spitting out or regurgitating food due to a medical problem, the right types of grains can often help. There is an old Swiss country saying: «a thick meal is more likely to stay down than a thin one». If there’s nothing here that appeals to your baby, ask a specialist for the right grain-based cereal supplement. Spitting and regurgitating can be effectively counteracted if every bottle is thickened with 3 g of cereal supplement per 100 ml. Important: Diarrhoea with vomiting is dangerous for your child. Seek medical assistance immediately.
Hard stool: What should I do?
Avoid grated apples, bananas and carrots. Cooked apples and Bimbosan Bifrutta are good for constipation. Make sure not to give your baby baby milk powder with supplements containing starch (hardens the stool) when your baby is constipated. Bimbosan intentionally does not use any starch in our baby milk powders (starter or follow-on milk). All Bimbosan baby milk powders are effective in loosening stool. They are best combined with Bio-Hirsana, the stool-loosening cereal supplement. You can start right away after the next bottle (after 4 months). Would you like to try a free sample? Don’t hesitate to contact us at our friendly customer service by phone +41 32 639 14 44 or per e-mail to info@bimbosan.ch.
The consistency of my child’s stool isn’t normal
There are two options in this case.
- If the stool is too soft, use the all-natural Bimbosan organic rice. When mixed with baby milk, it effectively hardens the stool.
- If the stool is too hard, use the all-natural Bio-Hirsana. When mixed with baby milk, it effectively loosens the stool.
Many other baby milk products contain supplements that harden the stool such as rice or potato starch. If your baby’s stool is already hard, keep in mind that the natural properties of rice, carrots, bananas and raw grated apples harden the stool.
What should I do if my baby is having stomach problems?
Talk to your child about the problem. Food that causes wind should be avoided. If necessary, massage your baby’s stomach and possibly even change the baby’s position. See if moving the baby’s arms and legs helps.
Getreide kann in diesen Fällen helfen. Grain can help in cases like these. Try one of the cereal supplements from the Bimbosan Feel-Good-System or contact our helpful and competent customer service by phone +41 32 639 14 44 or per e-mail to info@bimbosan.ch.
My child is still hungry
Babies are often given bottles at night to help them sleep longer. When switching over from breastfeeding to bottles, we recommend filling your child up more during the day to get used to the new diet. You can add a little bit of grain to each meal. Breastfeed as long as possible and ask an expert for breastfeeding tips. Even just an extra 1-2 hours of sleep helps some mothers keep breastfeeding a bit longer. It is certainly worth a try.
Constipation
It happens: infants who don’t have a bowel movement for up to 14 days. If the baby is otherwise fit, it isn’t a problem. If your baby doesn’t feel well, ask an expert for advice. You can also mix a little bit of Bio-Hirsana into every meal for your baby. Millet helps loosen the stool.
What if my baby’s bottom is red?
Your baby’s stool may cause a sore bottom depending on food or medicine. Ask an expert for advice. Leave your baby without nappies as often as possible. Instead of just relying on locally applied creams, you can also give your baby a rice pap which helps in many cases
My child doesn’t drink enough liquids
Interestingly, babies who refuse all other bottles like to drink from a sports bottle with its hard mouthpiece. These babies particularly like this bottle combined with Bimbosan baby milk and Bifrutta. You can also use a mouthpiece with a bigger hole so that your baby doesn’t get as tired drinking from the bottle. In difficult cases you can reduce the milk powder by 2 measuring spoons so that the child gets hungry.
My child drinks too much
Increase the cereal supplement up to 5 g per 100 ml. Never increase the amount of liquid because this can expand the child’s stomach.
What should I do if my child refuses to drink any baby milk after I have stopped breastfeeding?
Infants who have breastfed for a long time often refuse bottles when breastfeeding ends. Frantic parents buy all sorts of bottles and baby-bottle teats made from various materials. Here are some tips that may help:
- The father should try giving the baby the bottle
- Talk to the child
- The mother should leave the house
- Add a cereal supplement (e.g. Bio-Hosana)
- Try out the Bimbosan sports bottle at the beginning
Sensitive stomach: What should I do?
Grains have proven beneficial effects on children with stomach cramps. Grains containing gluten are only recommended after the 5th month. Before this, there is a wide range of excellent grain products with gluten available including Bio-Hosana, organic rice or organic millet . Babies who are bottle-feeding can be given the right cereal supplement. If you have special questions, please feel free to get in touch by phone +41 32 639 14 44 or per e-mail to info@bimbosan.ch. What should I do if my child has digestive problems?

What is important when switching milk?
Switching between different starter milks is less critical than changing to a follow-on milk. All of the starter milks available in Switzerland are very similar by law. If you want to switch to Bimbosan baby milk, try it out first with 1-2 sample packs. These samples are available as travel-size portions (packs of 3) in stores. If your child responds well, you can still finish up the other milk you aren’t happy with and then switch completely to Bimbosan baby milk.
P.S. A lot of parents gave us these tips. Have you had any unusual or helpful experiences with Bimbosan products? We would be happy to hear them! Give us a call. We would like to learn from your experiences.
